RAPA Chartered Architects proudly undertook the design and consultancy for the new Children’s Ward facility at ‘Apeksha’ Hospital in Maharagama, a project dedicated to charity and community service. This initiative reflects a deep commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure, especially for children battling cancer.
Breaking away from conventional hospital design, Architect Kamilka Perera involved at initial design stage with a vision. The design was further refined by RAPA’s expert consultancy team, with Architect Architect Harendra Amarakoon overseeing the specialized third-floor bone marrow transplant theater. This crucial section of the facility is precisely designed to maintain the highest standards of sterility and comfort for patients undergoing complex treatments.
The building’s design not only prioritizes functional efficiency but also focuses on the emotional and psychological well-being of its young patients. It features thoughtfully designed spaces such as play areas, a computer section, and a library, all adorned with vibrant colors and imagery. These elements create a joyful and uplifting environment, allowing children to momentarily escape their illness and find happiness during treatment.
Spanning 26,000 square feet, the ward facility is designed to accommodate a growing patient population in a healing environment. The project was completed in an impressive 10 months, a testament to the efficiency and dedication of all involved. The Sri Lankan Air Force construction team played a key role, working tirelessly to ensure the project’s timely completion. Their dedication was helpful in overcoming the challenges of this significant endeavor.
The Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Dewalaya made a significant contribution by coordinating with donors to secure the necessary resources. Their efforts highlight the spirit of community collaboration that brought this vision to life.
The success of this project is a result of the collective efforts of everyone involved. RAPA Chartered Architects extend their heartfelt gratitude to all partners, contributors, and the Sri Lankan Air Force construction team for their unwavering dedication, ensuring that the new Children’s Ward at “Apeksha” Hospital provides a place of joy and comfort for children during their challenging journey.
