It was after tremendous commitment that the Department of Architecture, University of Moratuwa unveiled its latest publication; the magazine titled “Juxtaposed- Major Design Project 2018” on the 5th of January, 2019 at the Architecture New Wing in the university, demarcating a successful beginning to the university event calendar. The magazine was compiled by the 2015 batch of the B.Arch undergraduates for the first time in the department’s history as a publication oriented on the level- III Major Design Project (MDP) examination which qualifies students for the in- plant training program during the degree period.
The MDP examination involves a set of hypothetical designs proposed to a particular town in Sri Lanka under a few key project titles, following a profound research done on the township and application of master plan proposals to enhance the quality of the urban planning with proper concern given to the structure of the township in all physical, geographical, morphological, social and economic aspects. Thus the MDP-2018 was based on Kalutara city and its immediate context.
The event unveiled the “Juxtaposed” magazine followed by a student forum on the MDP examination criterion, educating the audience via top scored students’ presentations on their designs. The event was inaugurated by the Head of the Department, other invitee architects and year masters of the department lightning up the traditional oil lamp. Following the welcome speech commenced the students’ sessions and questionnaires to the presenters from the audience. The magazine was unveiled prior to concluding the session, with the initial script offered to the head of the department.
Thus concluded another prominent event of the University of Moratuwa with all positive responses upon its success, by the participants who witnessed the start of another productive task, to be implemented annually by the Department of Architecture.
