Entry #35 - by Paul Jesukumar Alex

Concept

This project embraces the concept of protecting natural trees and reducing waste after use by creating a sustainable Christmas tree alternative . Instead of using a traditional tree, I designed a structure that reimagines the festive spirit through eco friendly materials, reducing the need for cutting down trees. The tree’s frame is constructed from wooden dried sticks, woven together with coconut coir rope and painted green to evoke the appearance of a natural Christmas tree. The tree topper, made from coconut coir rope and handcrafted with care, serves as a striking and unique focal point, emphasizing the beauty of natural materials.

The ornaments are made from repurposed coconut shells and popsicle sticks, turning waste into beautiful and unique decorations. These materials were chosen for their natural origins and potential to be upcycled into something festive. The trunk, built from dried and fallen Palmyra leaves, ties the design together with a natural, grounded feel. This ” Christmas tree without a tree” concept represents a commitment to sustainability, aiming to reduce the impact on natural resources while celebrating the joy of season. It encourages others to think creatively about how we can enjoy the holidays while minimizing waste and protecting the environment.

Materials

The tree is crafted using coconut coir rope, wooden dried sticks, coconut shells, popsicle sticks, and dried Palmyra leaves, combining natural textures for a rustic, eco friendly, and sustainable design.
